   About

Tris Ikeda: Graduated with a BFA in Film Production, Magna Cum Laude in Cinema Studies, & Minor in Leadership Studies from CU Boulder in 2023

Tris Ikeda creates films to empower others—using the language of visuals and sound to inspire change, celebrate identity, and foster connection. Whether through narrative, experimental, or documentary formats, her work centers voices that are often overlooked, encouraging viewers to stand up for social justice and embrace their full selves.

As a mixed-race filmmaker (Black, White, and Asian), Tris brings a unique perspective that bridges cultures and communities. Her storytelling is deeply personal and unapologetically bold—highlighting themes of cultural self-identity, gender expression, and mental health.

In her recent work, Tris has placed a strong aesthetic emphasis on her Asian heritage, intentionally confronting and reshaping the harmful stereotypes often portrayed about the AAPI community. These visual choices are not only artistic—they are a call to action, born from the painful rise in anti-Asian hate crimes in 2020. Through her films, Tris invites audiences to reflect, empathize, and push for lasting, positive change.

Her award-winning short film Bodu, which captures the spirit of a world champion martial artist, earned her the London Independent Film Award and was an Official Selection at the IndieX Film Fest in 2021. Known for her experimentation with lens manipulation, shadow play, and innovative editing, Tris brings a mystical, almost ethereal quality to her visual storytelling—elevating energy and spirit as living forces within the frame.

Beyond filmmaking, Tris is a passionate multi-hyphenate. She teaches self-defense, acts, sings, plays guitar and violin, and enjoys backpacking through the wilderness. She has also created marketing content for CU Boulder and the President's Leadership Class, showcasing her versatility as both a storyteller and visual communicator.
